Tajweed Rulings For School Kids

tajweed rules For School Kids

Tajweed Rulings For School Kids: All Muslim parents pray to see their kids crowned with the sacred crown of the Quran and to touch how their kids’ hearts are so attached to their Mushafs and the holy Quran.

Well, this will not come fully true without the Quranic rules of the Tajweed; for they are central to the recitation of the Quran, and all Quran memorization courses focus on teaching students Tajweed rules.

But what exactly is Tajweed? And why is it important to learn Tajweed? Well, we are here to answer these questions for you.

What are the rules of Tajweed?

The rules of Tajweed are a set of rules that guide the pronunciation of the holy Quran in its original language; as we Muslims are instructed to recite the Quran in the exact manner in which it was revealed to our prophet, Mohammed (PBUH) by the angel Jibril.

There are many Tajweed rules of the Quran; such as:

1- Idhaar: pronouncing the sound clearly and plainly.

2- Ikhfaa: treating the sound as a silent one; so, one doesn’t pronounce it.

3- Iqlaab: turning the pronunciation of a sound into a different sound.

4- Idgham: merging the pronunciation of two sounds into one; so, one would not be pronouncing either of them, but what seems to be similar to both of them at once.

5- Madd: prolonging the pronunciation of one of three sounds, the sounds of the letter Alif, Yaa, or Waw.

What are the benefits of learning Tajweed?

There are many benefits to learning the Tajweed rules of the Quran, which is why all Quran tutors make sure young learners of the Quran understand the theoretical rules, and are able to apply it practically, while reciting the Quran.

1- Allows your kid to receive the full Thawab of Quran recitation:

Learning the rules of Tajweed, and applying them would allow your kid to receive the full Thawab of Quran recitation; as all Muslims are ordered to recite the Quran while abiding to the rules of Tajweed; so that, they would be reciting it exactly how it was revealed to our prophet (PBUH).

In Ibn Al-Jazari’s poem on the rules of Tajweed, he makes sure to explain that they are obligatory to follow when reading the Quran, and whoever doesn’t abide by them is considered sinful.

2- Teaches your little one how to beautify the recitation of the Quran:

Learning the Quran Tajweed rules will teach your little one how to beautify the recitation of the Quran; as beautifying the readers’ recitations of it is one of the main functions of the rules of Tajweed.

Beautifying the recitation of the Quran through learning Tajweed facilitates getting into a peaceful, sacred trance that only Quran reciters have experienced; as the relaxed pronunciation of the sounds while respecting Tajweed rules allows one to meditate intellectually while reading.

3- Enriching one’s practical practice of the Arabic language:

Although it seems like it complicates things, Tajweed rules will help your kid in enriching their practical practice of the Arabic language; as Tajweed is basically based on respecting and abiding by the rules of the Arabic grammar.

Therefore, learning Tajweed rules will in turn force its learners to work even harder on mastering their Arabic language knowledge.

What is the history of learning Tajweed?

The history of learning Tajweed goes back to the time of our noble prophet (PBUH); because he was in charge of teaching his companions how to recite the verses of the Quran in the exact same manner as the angel, Jibril, has recited them to the prophet (PBUH).

However, during that period of time, the Quranic rules of Tajweed were only practical knowledge that is applied when reciting the Quran, and it didn’t have a theoretical framework that governs how it works exactly.

Later on, and specifically, during the third Hijri century, Islamic scholars specialized in the holy Quran decided to surround the practice of Tajweed with a theoretical framework that describes its application. Thus, teaching Tajweed was done in both ways: theoretically, and practically.

Is Tajweed obligatory?

Yes, the Quran reading Tajweed rules are obligatory to follow when reciting the Quran. Some Islamic scholars believe that those who don’t abide by it need to repent and start abiding by it, and reading the Quran properly, while others argue that applying Tajweed is extremely preferable, yet if one chooses not to apply it, they are not to be considered sinners.

Later, Islamic scholars came to the conclusion that the rules of Tajweed that make a difference in the meaning of the verse must be followed, but the Tajweed rules that have no effect on the meaning of a verse can be overlooked when reciting the Quran.

Yet, people need to be weary of some important points:

1- one must not overuse the rules of Tajweed to the limit that it wouldn’t be beautifying anymore.

2- it’s really detestable to pay all attention to applying the rules of Tajweed, with little to no attention to the intellectual meditation recommended while reciting the Quran.

Does Salah need Tajweed?

Yes, to perform Salah, one needs to recite the Quran with Tajweed. However, the must-to-follow Tajweed rules are the ones that change the meaning of the verse, and all other rules are only preferable to apply.

How long does it take to learn the Quran with Tajweed?

The period of time it takes kids to learn the Quran with Tajweed differs from one kid to another, and from a set of circumstances to another. Yet, generally speaking, kids will take up to two years of regular and extensive Quran classes to be able to memorize the Quran with Tajweed.

The rules of Tajweed are like a crown that completes the glamour of the Quran; beautifying it, and making it whole. So, don’t hesitate to add your kid to Tajweed classes such as the ones at Sahlah Academy.
